New Local: Visualize the Data of Immigration!
The workshop is part of the New Local project which is a social design project connected to the gastronomy and the everyday life of immigrants in Vienna.
The results of the workshop will be exhibited at the Vienna Design Week (25th Sept-5th October 2015) at the Ankerbrotfabrik that will also host the New Local project activities along the design week with kind partnership of the Community Cooking/Caritas. The project is realized with the kind support of Balassi Institut – Collegium Hungaricum Wien.
We are organizing a two-day-long workshop where we will work in teams on contemporary immigration data provided by:
the Open Government Vienna,
the Caritas and
the New Local project-research based on personal stories
Participants are encouraged to use digital graphic tools as well as physical materials (e.g objects, food) for the visualizations.
The main aim is to:
use the visual language to make understand refugee, migrant and immigrant statuses
to present their backgrounds (nation, education, origin, age, profession, etc.) and social context
gain a better understanding of the situation of immigrants in Vienna
try to make their presence as transparent as possible so they become more approachable
disperse the fears coming from the lack of/too complex/ambiguous information
Eligibility: Open worldwide to students and professionals. Some experience of data visualization is needed.
